All assignments for chapter 9 due by the end of class on Friday January 16th.
Level One-Must complete 5 assignments.
1. Define all vocabulary terms for the chapter.
2. List all subtitles from the chapter and turn them into a question.
3. Copy a real illustration of the Roman Colosseum. (must be on white paper and must be colored).
4. Recall the Roman gods and their roles that are listed in the book. (worksheet)
5. List Roman contributions to building and architecture and give example for each contribution.
6. Find and state the main ideas for each section.
7. List the reasons for the decline of the Roman government.
Level Two- Must complete 4 assignments.
1. Create a four column chart that includes the headings: What I Know, What I Want to Know,
What I learned, and How can I learn more. Classify information from the chapter under the four headings.
2. Research the roles of women in ancient Rome and compare it to the roles of women in the United
States.
3. Explain at least one political, social, economic, and military problem that led to disaster and decline
of the Roman Empire.
4. Identify the areas of the Byzantine Empire by tracing and coloring the map on page 329.
5. Explain the main idea of each section by listing at least two supporting details for each main idea.
6. Compare and contrast religion, food, and roles of women between the empires of Rome and Greece.
Level Three- Must complete 3 assignments.
1. Illustrate a poster by showing examples of achievements or practices related to one of the following
topics: literature, art and architecture, science and engineering, families, women, slavery, or religion.
2. Write a letter to the editor of a newspaper explaining the positives and negatives of holding sports figures up as heroes.
3. Choose one Roman god and write a one-page essay about why that god would be a "cool" god to be.
4. Use timeline to list all major events that occured in chapter 9.
Level Four- Must complete 2 assignments.
1. Compare Diocletian and Constantine by looking at what impact they had on the Roman Empire.
2. Examine one Roman god by tracing the god's family tree.
3. Research and prepare a presentation about one of the three categories listed at the bottom of page 322.
Level Five- Must complete 1 assignment.
1. Support how well you understand the gladiators by creating a gladiator obstacle course. (This needs to be
done at home with either a video tape or camera. You need to explain each part of the obstacle course and
explain how it would be challenging for a gladiator.)
2. Select a number of famous Roman figures and create a talk show. Student who creates talk show will be the host.
They will pick people to play roles of Romans and the rest of the class will be the audience.
